THE GUIDED PILATES METHOD & WHAT TO EXPECT

Emma‘s Guided Pilates classes represent the beautiful blend of not only her qualifications, but her experiences in life as a blind woman, fusing Pilates and mindfulness for not only physical fitness but mental well-being too.

Expect each class to be calm and welcoming with traditional and modern Pilates exercises to mobilise, strengthen and stretch the body, performed at a slower pace to allow time to notice and reflect on our technique, feelings and emotions. This also gives extra time for as much audio description as possible, making Emma's classes accessible for blind and visually impaired people.

More emphasis is placed on the breathing in Emma‘s classes, where it is used alongside Pilates exercises for more connection and control, as well as being used alone as a form of meditation.

“As a blind woman, I have become more in touch with my other senses, which has allowed me to become more aware of my mind and body in the present moment on the mat. The style of my classes and the way I teach has definitely been shaped by my sight loss journey in the most positive way and I know my classes will be the start of a journey you won’t regret starting“

Emma’s guide dog Archie attends each class and is more than happy to eat a carrot and have a nap before getting some well deserved attention from anyone willing to give it at the end of the class.

“Being blind has made me a better instructor”
